Apii McKinley was born and raised in the Cook Islands, where her family own and run the largest bakery in the island group, and have done for 50 years. She is a mother, grandmother and very recently became a great grandmother!
She met, married and sadly separated from her husband, moving to New Zealand shortly afterwards. Apii arrived with just $45 to her name and actively sought employment to no avail. That was until she saw an advert for a car salesperson with “no experience required”. Applying for the job, she was told that unless she was able to sell three cars on her first day, the job wasn’t hers. She sold three cars!
Working seven days a week, initially for one car dealer and then headhunted by another, this brought her into the world of finance. Most cars were bought on a payment plan of some sort. It became very clear to Apii that Pacific Island families struggled with an understanding of how to structure their personal finances here in New Zealand, which was quite different to life in the Islands.
Apii now works tirelessly with Pacific Island families to get them out of debt, structure their loans to be more affordable, help them into their first or subsequent homes, and to help them save for retirement.

Apii prides herself on her 25 years of experience in financial services, her very high level of approvals of loans and her affinity with having been in the situation she often finds her client to be in.
